“Anyango” is a name from the Luo people in Kenya,
meaning “a girl born in the morning”.
She is the world’s first female performer of the traditional Kenyan string instrument, the NYATITI, and is originally from Tokyo.
She made her debut in 2009 with her first album, Nyatiti Diva, and was selected that same year as one of “Japan’s 100 Most Respected People” by Newsweek.
She is widely known for her performances not only in Japan, but also in Kenya, France, Germany, and the United States. She is also recognized as a Japanese-Kenyan Cultural Ambassador.
